What does HOV do?
HOV aims to inspire citizens and volunteers and offer support to educators in order to engage their students in innovative and responsible history and citizenship education.
RESEARCH
We conduct historical project research to assess the needs of those teaching and learning history, heritage and citizenship. We map trends and needs using surveys, technology focus-groups and interviews. We conduct actual historical research projects with the research findings offered to the academy and museums for preservation. We operate a researchable database for scholars worldwide. This drives the work of the Association and are used as evidence for advocacy and fundraising.
ADVOCACY
We advocate for high-quality history, heritage and citizenship education on the Macedonian, European and international levels. We act as a resource and conduit between the history educators’ community in Europe, intergovernmental organisations such as The Association of European History Educators (EURO-CLIO), the Council of Europe, the EU, UNESCO as well as national authorities.
SUPPORT
We support the collaborative design of directly applicable educational resources that promote active learning and historical thinking. The development, piloting and peer-review is typically done by people with different cultural and professional backgrounds to build on different experiences.
ORGANISE
We organise on-site learning, professional development courses, volunteer and Public History workshops, on-site learning and opportunities for networking. Our HOV Annual Conference is designed to be the most international training course for history educators in the Western Balkans.
INFORM
We inform our network about relevant projects, resources, research, and events related to Public History, heritage and citizenship education in Macedonia. We are seen on several social media channels, maintain the HOV website and issue a Quarterly newsletter.
